Ferrargunj hosts millet-themed Poshan recipe contest

As part of the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah celebrations, a lively Recipe Competition was organized at the CMTC Building, Ferrargunj, with an emphasis on healthy eating and millet-based innovations.

The event, held under the National Poshan Abhiyaan, aimed to promote awareness about balanced diets, locally sourced farm produce, and the nutritional benefits of traditional ingredients. Twelve Village Organizations (VOs) from 12 Panchayats took part, each presenting unique dishes highlighting local culinary creativity and nutritional value.

The competition was inaugurated by BDO Smt. Lalita Tigga, who urged participants to incorporate natural and homegrown foods into daily meals. She emphasized the role of women-led self-help groups and community organizations in spreading awareness about nutrition and sustainable food practices.

The winning teams were Sansaar VO, Mithakhari (first place), Aadarsh VO, Ferrargunj (second), and Rosery VO, Humfrygunj along with Nayeem Kiran VO, Guptapara sharing the third position.

Judges appreciated the innovative use of millets, pulses, and leafy greens, aligning with India’s push for millet promotion in the International Year of Millets. Participants also exchanged recipes and shared local health tips.

Officials noted that such events bring the “Eat Right, Stay Bright” message directly to rural communities, reinforcing the goals of Poshan Abhiyaan ,  a nationwide campaign to improve nutritional outcomes for women and children.

The recipe competition not only celebrated culinary diversity but also demonstrated how traditional knowledge and local produce can help achieve better health and food security in the islands.
