Sri Vijaya Puram, May 23: The Office of the Assistant Commissioner, Rangat, will organise the ‘Rangat Monsoon Marathon 2026’ on June 13 with the theme ‘Run for Health, Unity, Environment’, as authorities seek to promote fitness, public participation and community engagement through a large-scale sporting event in North & Middle Andaman.
According to the organisers, the marathon is being conducted in coordination with Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and various line departments. The event is scheduled to begin at 5.30 am from Nimbutala Chowk in Rangat.
Officials stated that the initiative aims to encourage a healthy lifestyle while also celebrating community spirit and public participation through sports and outdoor activities.
The marathon will feature two categories, a 10-kilometre run for men and a 5-kilometre run for women, both open to participants from the general public.
As per the announced route, the men’s category will begin and conclude at Nimbutala Chowk, covering the stretch through Kalimandir, Amkunj, Chitrakut, Morice Dera and Panchawati Chowk before returning through the same route to the finishing point.
The women’s category will also start and end at Nimbutala Chowk and will pass through Kalimandir, Amkunj and Chitrakut before returning to the finishing point along the same route.
The organisers have invited participation from students of government and private schools, colleges, institutions, organisations and members of the general public.
Cash prizes along with medals will be awarded to winners in both categories. According to officials, the first prize winner will receive Rs 10,000 and a medal, while the second and third prize winners will receive Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 respectively along with medals.
Authorities have requested all interested participants to report at Nimbutala Chowk before 5.20 am on June 13. The marathon will officially commence at 5.30 am.
The Administration stated that the event is intended to encourage public awareness regarding health and fitness while also strengthening social participation through community-oriented activities.
Officials added that the marathon is expected to witness participation from people belonging to different age groups and institutions across the region.
