The fourth season of the Prime Volleyball League will begin on October 2, with hosts Hyderabad Black Hawks facing defending champions Calicut Heroes in the opening encounter, and the final scheduled for October 26. The organisers announced the full schedule on Tuesday, confirming this year’s edition as the league’s largest yet.
With the inclusion of the Goa Guardians, the competition expands to ten teams, the highest in its history. The line-up has been divided into two pools of five each. Pool A comprises the Goa Guardians, Chennai Blitz, Kochi Blue Spikers, Bengaluru Torpedoes and Kolkata Thunderbolts, while Pool B includes Hyderabad Black Hawks, Delhi Toofans, Ahmedabad Defenders, Mumbai Meteors and Calicut Heroes.
Across the 21-day tournament, a total of 38 matches will be contested. The league stage, consisting of 35 fixtures, has been designed to provide both intra-pool and cross-pool competition. Each team will play four opponents within its pool and three from the other pool. The top four sides at the end of the league phase, irrespective of pool standings, will progress to the semi-finals scheduled for October 24. The winners will battle for the title on October 26.
The organisers have structured the fixture list to maximise engagement, with several double headers and high-stakes rivalries planned throughout. This approach, according to the league’s management, is aimed at maintaining momentum and offering fans a night of action almost every day of the tournament.
Joy Bhattacharjya, CEO of Prime Volleyball League powered by Scapia, said the intent behind the schedule is to create continuous excitement for fans across the country. He pointed to the compact playoff window and consecutive matchdays as elements designed to intensify competition and keep audiences hooked. Volleyball, he noted, has long enjoyed a strong following in India, and the aim this year is to elevate the energy to a national scale.
Adding to the scale of the league is the presence of Goa Guardians, the newest entrant, which further diversifies the competition’s footprint across the country. The season also promises more international talent, bringing a global flavour to Indian volleyball. Tuhin Mishra, managing director and co-founder of Baseline Ventures, described Season 4 as the league’s biggest step forward, highlighting its broader fan base, stronger line-up, and enhanced competitiveness.
For Indian volleyball, the Prime Volleyball League has steadily positioned itself as a professional platform attracting both established names and emerging players. Since its inception, the league has sought to showcase the sport with a modern, entertainment-driven approach similar to other franchise-based tournaments. This season’s expansion to ten teams underscores the growing commercial and sporting interest.
The competition will span over three weeks, beginning with the high-profile clash between Hyderabad Black Hawks and Calicut Heroes, a contest that pits the host side against last season’s champions. The build-up includes several marquee games across pools, ensuring that traditional rivalries and fresh match-ups fuel the drama leading up to the playoffs.
With 38 games packed into 24 days, this season of the Prime Volleyball League is set to be its most demanding yet for players and coaches. For fans, however, it presents an opportunity to engage with top-level volleyball on a near-daily basis, reflecting the organisers’ ambition to take the sport deeper into mainstream Indian sporting culture.
