Sri Vijaya Puram (Port Blair), April 10: The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Project Rangat marked the opening of the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Pakhwada on April 9 with a public awareness rally and community engagement activities focused on nutrition and early childhood development.
The rally was flagged off by Assistant Commissioner of Rangat, Dipanshu Vhora, in the presence of the Tehsildar and Block Development Officer of Rangat. Anganwadi Workers led the procession through key locations in the area, carrying placards and raising slogans to promote awareness on nutritional health, with emphasis on brain development during the first six years of life.
The event aimed to sensitise the public about the importance of balanced nutrition and its role in child development. Officials highlighted that Poshan Pakhwada serves as a platform to reinforce community-level awareness and encourage behavioural changes related to dietary practices.

Following the rally, a formal programme was held at the Panchayat Samiti Hall in Rangat. Addressing the gathering, the Assistant Commissioner outlined the objectives of the Poshan Pakhwada campaign, focusing on improving nutritional outcomes and strengthening public awareness initiatives.
As part of the programme, Anganwadi Workers showcased a variety of millet-based dishes, demonstrating the nutritional value and versatility of traditional grains. The display aimed to encourage the adoption of locally available, nutrient-rich food options in daily diets.
A “Do-It-Yourself” corner was also set up, where workers exhibited innovative teaching aids and household items created from recycled materials. The initiative highlighted the use of resourceful and low-cost methods to support learning and engagement in Anganwadi Centres.
Officials noted that such activities play a key role in promoting both nutrition awareness and creative approaches to early childhood education. The participation of frontline workers was highlighted as central to the success of the campaign at the grassroots level.
The launch event reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen nutrition-related interventions and community participation under national programmes. Authorities reiterated the importance of sustained awareness and local engagement in addressing nutritional challenges and improving health outcomes.
