A recent payout under the Police Salary Package scheme has underscored the Andaman & Nicobar Police’s commitment to welfare and timely support for its personnel and their families. In a significant instance of effective policy implementation, the family of Late HG(R)/275 Jual Tigga has received Rs 40 lakh as accidental insurance compensation, following his untimely death in a road accident.

The payout was made under the Police Salary Package, an initiative introduced through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the A&N Police and the State Bank of India (SBI) on January 25, 2023. The package includes a provision for Rs 40 lakh in accidental insurance for eligible personnel. The case of Late Jual Tigga is among the first to successfully move through this system, highlighting both the scheme’s impact and the efficiency of its execution.

The claim was processed smoothly, and the financial assistance was handed over to the deceased’s legal heir, Sangita Barla, at her residence in Shivapuram Betapur. The disbursement took place on July 16, 2025, just a few months after the incident, thanks to streamlined coordination between the police department and SBI.

This development marks a practical milestone in public sector welfare, demonstrating how pre-planned institutional frameworks can support grieving families in times of crisis. The Police Headquarters noted that the successful implementation was made possible by the dedicated efforts of the Accounts team and the administration’s commitment to fast-tracking genuine claims.

Officials have emphasized that the initiative reflects the department’s broader goal of enhancing the welfare net for its personnel. The collaboration with SBI, in particular, enables both regular salary services and extended benefits, including accidental coverage, through a single institutional relationship.

The Police Salary Package includes a range of other features like personal accident cover, permanent disability benefits, and simplified account services tailored for uniformed forces. The insurance provision is not just a symbolic gesture but a vital financial buffer for families facing unforeseen loss.

While the tragic loss of a serving member is irreplaceable, the efficient handling of the insurance disbursement is being seen as a responsible and humane approach by the administration. Officials have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that every police personnel and their dependents are aware of the benefits entitled to them under the package.

Beyond the present case, the A&N Police plans to conduct orientation sessions and awareness drives to inform its staff of the benefits available under the salary package. The administration is also reviewing mechanisms to further expedite future claims and reduce paperwork-related delays.

By showcasing accountability and responsiveness in delivering promised benefits, the department is setting a model for institutional preparedness and compassionate governance. The case of Late Jual Tigga has become a notable example of what happens when administrative promises are kept.
