The District Industries Centre (DIC) under the Department of Industries will roll out a series of awareness and motivational programmes in Shaheed Dweep later this month, focusing on the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and other government-sponsored self-employment schemes.
Scheduled to begin from the end of the second week of October, the initiative will be conducted in association with local Gram Panchayats, banks, and other line departments. Officials said the outreach drive aims to connect unemployed individuals with available schemes and financial assistance opportunities, particularly those looking to set up ventures in the manufacturing, service, or trading sectors.
The programmes will cover the objectives and benefits of PMEGP and similar initiatives, with an emphasis on encouraging rural entrepreneurs to adopt self-employment as a sustainable livelihood option. Following the awareness sessions, hands-on guidance will be provided on how to fill out and submit applications under different schemes. Participants will also receive assistance with mandatory documentation, ensuring that applications are complete and ready for processing.
In a step to simplify the process, organisers will collect completed applications on the spot and upload them directly to the PMEGP online portal. After due scrutiny and verification, these will be forwarded to the banks chosen by applicants for financial support. This streamlined process, officials noted, is aimed at reducing delays and making the schemes more accessible to those who need them.
Aspiring entrepreneurs interested in attending the programme have been advised to bring essential documents, including Aadhaar card, local certificate, category certificate, and educational qualification certificates. These will be required for processing applications under the schemes.
The Department has urged unemployed individuals from Shaheed Dweep to make use of this opportunity to explore self-employment ventures supported by government finance. For further information, interested candidates may contact the District Industries Centre, Udyog Parisar, Middle Point, or call 03192-232819/232601.
The series of programmes is expected to boost awareness, expand access to government funding, and encourage entrepreneurship across Shaheed Dweep, in line with the larger goal of promoting economic self-reliance in the islands.
