Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern over escalating tensions in West Asia on Monday, highlighting India’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its nationals amid the regional conflict. He underscored the country’s support for peace and stability while emphasizing continued engagement with all nations in the area.
Addressing a joint press briefing with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Modi reiterated India’s firm stance on global tensions. “The current situation in West Asia is a matter of deep concern for us,” he said, adding that India supports the resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy. He further stated that India will continue to coordinate with all regional countries to protect the safety of its citizens.

Modi highlighted that a united voice from democratic nations strengthens calls for peace. His remarks come in the context of a rapidly escalating conflict in the Middle East, triggered by joint US-Israel strikes on Iran targeting missile capabilities and broader military infrastructure. The strikes reportedly killed senior Iranian figures, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, prompting retaliatory drone and missile attacks across the Gulf.
Missiles and drones were intercepted over Kuwait, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates, forcing temporary airspace closures and resulting in civilian and military casualties. The escalation has led to US counter-strikes, including naval operations, marking one of the most severe confrontations between Washington and Tehran in decades.
On Sunday, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Modi, was briefed on the February 28 air strikes in Iran and the subsequent escalation in Gulf nations. The committee reviewed measures to safeguard India’s large expatriate population in the region and expressed serious concern over their security amid ongoing hostilities.
The Prime Minister emphasized that India’s approach balances diplomatic engagement with proactive measures to protect its citizens abroad. He reiterated that the government continues to monitor the situation closely through Indian missions, regional authorities, and security agencies to respond to emerging threats.
Officials noted that India’s stance underscores a preference for dialogue and diplomacy over military confrontation while ensuring that Indian nationals are shielded from harm. Modi stressed that all efforts will focus on maintaining peace and stability in the region while securing the interests of India’s population abroad.
Modi’s statements reflect India’s proactive engagement with key international partners to navigate complex geopolitical tensions in West Asia. His focus on citizen safety, combined with support for conflict resolution through diplomatic channels, demonstrates India’s approach to protecting its interests while advocating for stability in a volatile region.
