Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting on Tuesday, marking the first such gathering during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament. The meeting, which holds significant political weight, is being convened in the Parliament complex and is expected to witness the presence of all Members of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its alliance partners.
Attendance has been made mandatory for all National Democratic Alliance (NDA) MPs, highlighting the strategic importance of the meeting. This comes at a crucial time, just two days ahead of the commencement of the nomination process for the Vice-President’s election, scheduled to begin on August 7.
With the NDA commanding a clear majority in the electoral college, the selection of its candidate for the Vice-Presidency is widely expected to be a procedural affair. However, alliance leaders are likely to use the meeting to finalise and announce the nominee, ahead of the August 21 deadline for filing nominations. The decision is anticipated to align with the conclusion of the Monsoon Session.
Prime Minister Modi will also be felicitated during the meeting for the success of Operation Sindoor, a high-profile counter-terrorism operation launched following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The deadly assault claimed 26 lives, including several tourists, prompting swift military retaliation from India. Operation Sindoor, executed on May 7, involved the Indian Army, Air Force, and intelligence agencies, and led to the elimination of over 100 terrorists and the destruction of nine terror infrastructure targets across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
PM Modi’s address is expected to touch upon the broader national security strategy, challenges along the borders, and India’s zero-tolerance approach towards terrorism. He is also likely to commend the armed forces for their courage and professionalism in executing the operation.
In addition to national security, the Prime Minister is expected to address ongoing disruptions in Parliament. The Monsoon Session has seen repeated adjournments due to Opposition protests, particularly over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Opposition parties allege that the exercise is politically skewed to benefit the ruling party.
Modi is anticipated to counter these claims, defend the government’s electoral practices, and reaffirm the NDA’s commitment to democratic processes. He will also outline the alliance’s legislative roadmap for the remainder of the session, as several key bills await deliberation and passage.
As tensions continue to simmer in the House, the Prime Minister’s address to the NDA ranks could serve to consolidate the alliance’s focus and energize MPs ahead of critical parliamentary engagements.
