‘Make in India’ Momentum Stronger Than Ever, Says PM Modi at IMC 2025

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called upon global and domestic stakeholders to invest, innovate, and contribute to the ‘Make in India’ initiative, stating that the present moment marks the best opportunity to build on the country’s manufacturing, technology, and digital strengths.

Addressing the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025 in New Delhi, the Prime Minister said India is well-positioned to tackle global challenges and emerge as a major hub in sectors such as semiconductors, mobile manufacturing, and data security. He highlighted that disruptions in global supply chains should be viewed as opportunities for India to fill critical gaps and offer sustainable solutions.

“To strengthen the country’s semiconductor capabilities, the government is working on setting up 10 semiconductor manufacturing units,” PM Modi announced, underlining the government’s focus on creating an integrated ecosystem for chipsets and other mobile components.

The Prime Minister also underscored the growing importance of data storage and security as the world generates unprecedented volumes of digital information. He said India’s strong digital infrastructure and affordable data costs give it the potential to become a global data hub. “In India, 1GB of data costs as little as a cup of tea,” he remarked, emphasizing the accessibility that fuels digital inclusion across the nation.

PM Modi reiterated that digital connectivity has become a basic necessity rather than a luxury. He noted that India’s democratic values, openness to innovation, and simplified business environment have transformed the country into an investor-friendly destination.

Reflecting on India’s progress over the past decade, he said the government has focused on creating a modern legal and regulatory framework to support rapid technological advancement and digital growth.

The Prime Minister called on Indian innovators, startups, and industries to shoulder a greater responsibility in propelling the nation’s growth story. He noted that startups would play a key role in driving innovation and enhancing global competitiveness across sectors such as manufacturing, electronics, and semiconductors.

“From manufacturing to semiconductors, India has the energy and capability to lead in the global technology landscape,” Modi said, urging industries to seize the momentum created by ongoing reforms.

He concluded that India’s ongoing transformation makes this the ideal time for investment, innovation, and building a self-reliant nation, strengthening the vision of an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ through technology and enterprise
