Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch and lay the foundation of projects and schemes worth over Rs 42,000 crore in the agriculture and allied sectors in New Delhi on Saturday, underscoring the government’s continued focus on farmer welfare and rural development.
Two major schemes in the agriculture sector, with a combined outlay of Rs 35,440 crore, will be inaugurated. The PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, with an allocation of Rs 24,000 crore, aims to enhance agricultural productivity, promote crop diversification, encourage sustainable farming practices, strengthen post-harvest storage at panchayat and block levels, improve irrigation facilities, and ensure access to long-term and short-term credit in 100 selected districts.
Additionally, the ‘Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses’ will be launched with an outlay of Rs 11,440 crore. The mission targets increasing pulse productivity, expanding pulse cultivation areas, improving procurement, storage, and processing infrastructure, and reducing post-harvest losses.
Alongside these schemes, PM Modi will inaugurate projects worth over Rs 5,450 crore across agriculture, animal husbandry, fisheries, and food processing sectors. The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation for additional initiatives valued at approximately Rs 815 crore.
The events will take place at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi, where the Prime Minister will participate in a special Krishi programme, interact with farmers, and address a public gathering. The programme is aimed at promoting modern agricultural techniques, strengthening rural infrastructure, and celebrating key milestones in farmer-centric initiatives.
Key projects being inaugurated include Artificial Insemination Training Centers in Bengaluru and Jammu & Kashmir; Centres of Excellence at Amreli and Banas; IVF Lab in Assam under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission; Milk Powder Plants in Mehsana, Indore, and Bhilwara; Fish Feed Plant under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana in Tezpur, Assam; and infrastructure for agro-processing clusters, integrated cold chains, and value addition.
Foundation stones will be laid for projects such as Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure in Krishna, Andhra Pradesh; Trout Fisheries in Uttarakhand; Integrated Aqua Park in Nagaland; Smart and Integrated Fishing Harbour in Karaikal, Puducherry; and a state-of-the-art Integrated Aquapark in Hirakud, Odisha.
During the programme, PM Modi will engage with farmers involved in pulses cultivation who have benefited from various government schemes that focus on creating a value chain-based approach across agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries, emphasizing the government’s efforts to boost productivity, enhance farmer incomes, and strengthen the agricultural ecosystem.
The initiatives reflect the government’s broader commitment to agricultural self-reliance, modern farming practices, and the development of rural infrastructure, aiming to create sustainable growth and improve livelihoods in India’s farming communities.
