PM Modi Distributes Over 61,000 Appointment Letters at Rozgar Mela

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday distributed more than 61,000 appointment letters to newly recruited youth across various central government departments and organisations during the 18th edition of the Rozgar Mela, reinforcing the government’s focus on employment generation.

The recruits, drawn from across the country, will be joining several key ministries and departments, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Department of Financial Services and the Department of Higher Education. The event was held simultaneously at 45 locations nationwide, with the Prime Minister addressing candidates virtually.

Addressing the gathering, Modi described the appointment letters as an invitation to participate in nation-building and as a pledge towards achieving the goal of a developed India. He said the beginning of 2026 marked a new phase in the lives of the appointees, coinciding with the recent celebration of Vasant Panchami.

The Prime Minister said the newly recruited youth would contribute significantly to strengthening government institutions, improving public services, enhancing energy security and reinforcing India’s education and technology ecosystems. He reiterated that connecting youth with skills and employment opportunities has remained a priority, which led to the launch of Rozgar Mela in mission mode.

Since its inception, the Rozgar Mela initiative has facilitated the issuance of appointment letters to more than 11 lakh youth across central government departments, according to official data. Modi said India, being one of the youngest countries in the world, is continuously working to expand employment opportunities both domestically and globally, including through trade and mobility agreements with other nations.

Highlighting economic developments, the Prime Minister said large-scale investments in modern infrastructure over the past years have created extensive employment opportunities across sectors linked to construction. He also pointed to the rapid expansion of India’s startup and digital ecosystems, noting that initiatives under Digital India have created new avenues in areas such as animation, digital media and the creator economy.

Referring to India’s global economic standing, Modi said the country is the only major economy to have doubled its GDP within a decade. He noted that foreign direct investment in India has more than doubled compared to the decade before 2014, translating into increased job creation.

The Prime Minister also highlighted women’s participation in the workforce, stating that around 8,000 women received appointment letters at the event. He said women’s workforce participation has nearly doubled over the past 11 years, while self-employment among women has increased by nearly 15 per cent, supported by schemes such as MUDRA Yojana and Startup India.

Modi said the government is moving ahead with wide-ranging reforms aimed at improving ease of living and ease of doing business. He referred to GST reforms and the implementation of new labour codes, stating that these measures have strengthened social security coverage for workers and benefited entrepreneurs and MSMEs.

Calling on the new appointees to focus on citizen-centric governance, Modi urged them to address everyday difficulties faced by the public in their interactions with government offices. He emphasised the principle of “Nagrik Devo Bhava”, underscoring that public servants at all levels are accountable to citizens.

The newly recruited employees will also undergo foundational training through the Karmayogi Prarambh module on the iGOT Karmayogi platform, which offers more than 3,600 e-learning courses to support continuous skill upgradation.
