Phoenix Bay–Bambooflat Ferry Service Frequency Increased to Ease Commuter Travel

The Directorate of Shipping Services has increased the frequency of passenger ferry services between Phoenix Bay and Bambooflat, adding four additional trips to facilitate smoother travel for daily commuters. The move aims to improve accessibility and convenience for passengers who rely on ferry transport for routine travel.

The enhanced schedule will come into effect from 16 February 2026. The Directorate emphasized its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and commuter-friendly maritime transport services, urging passengers to make use of the additional ferry trips for a more comfortable travel experience.

The increase in service frequency is designed to ease congestion during peak travel hours and ensure more timely and efficient movement of residents, workers, and students between the two points. By adding trips, the Directorate aims to reduce waiting times and improve overall commuter satisfaction.

Vehicle ferry operations have also been adjusted to align with the additional passenger ferry services, ensuring seamless transport for both individuals and vehicles. These changes support the broader goal of improving inter-island connectivity, an essential aspect of maintaining economic and social activity across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Officials highlighted that the additional services reflect the administration’s commitment to addressing routine transportation challenges faced by residents. The enhanced frequency demonstrates proactive planning to meet rising commuter demand and provide practical solutions for daily travel.

Passengers are advised to follow the revised timetable and plan their journeys accordingly. The Directorate has also reminded travelers to adhere to safety protocols while boarding ferries, ensuring smooth and secure travel.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to modernize and strengthen maritime transport infrastructure in the Islands. By improving service frequency and aligning passenger and vehicle ferries, the Directorate aims to create a more efficient and user-friendly commuting experience.

The addition of trips is expected to have a positive impact on daily commuters, particularly those traveling for work, education, and essential activities. Increased ferry availability ensures greater flexibility, reduced travel stress, and improved reliability of maritime services.

With these changes, the Phoenix Bay–Bambooflat route is better equipped to meet the needs of residents and commuters, providing a safer, faster, and more convenient travel option. The Directorate continues to monitor ferry operations and plans further improvements based on commuter feedback and operational efficiency.

The enhanced ferry services reinforce the administration’s focus on maintaining strong inter-island connectivity, supporting local mobility, and enhancing the overall transportation infrastructure in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
