The Param Vir Sagar Yatra, a landmark NCC initiative, concluded with a grand ceremony in New Delhi, featuring active participation from Andaman & Nicobar NCC cadets. The ceremony included the presentation of the sacred Mati Kalash, containing soil collected from 21 uninhabited islands named after Param Vir Chakra awardees, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking the successful culmination of a national tribute to India’s bravest soldiers.
The Param Vir Sagar Yatra is a unique sailing expedition in which NCC cadets from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands sailed aboard Indian Naval ships to 21 uninhabited islands named after Param Vir Chakra awardees, paying homage to the nation’s valorous heroes.
A core team of 20 NCC cadets from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands undertook the Yatra, which was ceremonially flagged off on January 6, 2026, from the historic Flag Point in Sri Vijaya Puram by Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman & Nicobar Command. The event was attended by over 600 cadets and officers, highlighting the scale and prestige of the initiative.
Following the completion of the Param Vir Sagar Yatra and their participation in the Prime Minister’s Rally in New Delhi, the cadets returned safely to the islands. Their involvement throughout the expedition reflected exemplary discipline, dedication, and a commitment to national service.
The event marked the first time such a large-scale NCC initiative was conducted in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, establishing a historic milestone and fostering patriotism among the youth and citizens of the islands.
Lieutenant Commander Reyaz Farooq, Commanding Officer of 1 (AN) Naval Unit NCC, acknowledged the efforts of all stakeholders and the Andaman & Nicobar Administration for their support in ensuring the successful execution of the expedition and related activities.
The Param Vir Sagar Yatra underscores the significance of commemorating the valor of Param Vir Chakra awardees while promoting leadership, discipline, and a spirit of national service among young cadets. The initiative also highlights the role of the Andaman & Nicobar NCC units in participating in nationally recognized events and contributing to the wider objective of instilling patriotism and civic responsibility.
Through such expeditions, the NCC aims to provide cadets with experiential learning in leadership, navigation, and military protocol while reinforcing respect for India’s historical and military heritage.
The completion of the Param Vir Sagar Yatra is expected to encourage greater participation in NCC programs in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and strengthen national integration through youth-focused initiatives that honor India’s armed forces.
