Sri Vijaya Puram, May 8: P. Ummer of the Indian National Congress has been elected as the new Adhyaksh of the Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, while Asha Manja Halder of the Bharatiya Janata Party has been elected as the new Up-Adhyaksh of the Zilla Parishad, South Andaman for the fifth-year tenure of the 2022–2027 term.
The election was conducted during a special meeting of all elected members of the Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, held at the Conference Hall of the Zilla Parishad office on Wednesday. The meeting was presided over by Purva Garg, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman.
According to officials, all 18 elected members of the Zilla Parishad, South Andaman participated in the voting process and cast their votes during the meeting.
Following the completion of the election process, the Deputy Commissioner handed over certificates to the newly elected Adhyaksh and Up-Adhyaksh.
Officials stated that the election marks the commencement of the final-year leadership tenure of the present Zilla Parishad body for the period 2022–2027.
The newly elected Adhyaksh, P. Ummer, represents the Mannarghat Constituency and has been actively associated with local governance and developmental activities in the South Andaman district.

Similarly, Asha Manja Halder, elected as Up-Adhyaksh, represents the Little Andaman Constituency and is associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party.The oath of office to the newly elected Adhyaksh and Up-Adhyaksh will be administered by the Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman on May 8, 2026 at 3 p.m. at the Conference Hall of Zilla Parishad, South Andaman.
Officials stated that the Zilla Parishad plays a crucial role in rural governance, development planning and implementation of welfare schemes across various Panchayat areas of South Andaman district.
The election process was conducted peacefully and in accordance with prescribed procedures in the presence of officials and elected representatives.
