NSP Opens 2026 Scholarship Applications for OBC Students Nationwide

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, July 4: Online applications for Pre-Matric, Post-Matric and Additional Scholarship schemes for eligible Other Backward Classes students have been opened on the National Scholarship Portal for the 2026 cycle, with authorities issuing a detailed timeline for fresh and renewal submissions under government-run schemes.

The applications have been invited through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP), operated by the National Informatics Centre under the Government of India. Eligible students from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands have been advised to apply under the prescribed categories within the stipulated deadlines.

According to the schedule, the portal for all three schemes, Pre-Matric Scholarship for OBC students, Post-Matric Scholarship for OBC and EBC students, and Grant of Additional Scholarship (UT) for OBC students, opened on July 1, 2026. The last date for submission of applications has been fixed as October 31, 2026.

The deadline for defect verification by students has been set for November 15, 2026. Verification by educational institutions will be conducted from July 1 to November 30, 2026, while verification by District Nodal Officers and State Nodal Officers will continue until December 31, 2026.

Under the eligibility criteria, Pre-Matric Scholarship is applicable for OBC students studying in Classes IX and X whose parental annual income does not exceed ₹2.5 lakh. The Post-Matric Scholarship covers OBC and EBC students from Class XI onwards, subject to the same income limit.

For the Grant of Additional Scholarship (UT), OBC students of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands pursuing higher education anywhere in India after Class X (excluding Classes XI and XII) are eligible, provided their parental income does not exceed ₹8 lakh per annum.

Applicants have been instructed to apply online through the National Scholarship Portal at https://scholarships.gov.in under the “State Scheme – Andaman and Nicobar” section, selecting the relevant scholarship category and completing the registration and application process.

Authorities have advised students to ensure that their bank accounts are active, Aadhaar-seeded and compliant with banking requirements to prevent failures in scholarship disbursement. They have also urged applicants to complete submissions well before the deadline to avoid last-minute technical issues.

Students seeking assistance or clarification have been advised to visit the National Scholarship Portal or contact their respective educational institutions for further guidance.

The scholarship drive is aimed at supporting OBC students in continuing their education through financial assistance across pre-matric, post-matric and higher education levels under centrally administered welfare schemes.
