Village outreach drive steps up across North & Middle Andaman

The District Administration of North and Middle Andaman intensified its grassroots engagement this week, conducting a widespread village outreach across the Rangat Sub-Division on December 5 under the ongoing “Sampark se Samadhan – Prashasan Gaon ki Ore” initiative. The effort marks one of the most extensive rounds of direct public interaction undertaken in the region in recent months, as officials moved through multiple settlements to identify local challenges and initiate real-time solutions.

Led by Deputy Commissioner Sushant Padha, the outreach team included senior officials such as the Assistant Commissioner of Middle Andaman, the Divisional Forest Officer of Middle Andaman, and representatives from various departments tasked with public service delivery. The officials travelled through seven villages, Sabari, Bharatpur, Vishnupur, Bakultala, Shyamkund, Urmilapur, and Kalsi, covering a diverse cross-section of communities within the subdivision. The visits formed part of a district-wide effort to bridge administrative gaps and improve the responsiveness of governance mechanisms at the grassroots level.

Throughout the day-long engagement, the team conducted door-to-door interactions with residents. These conversations allowed officials to gather first-hand accounts of issues affecting day-to-day life. Concerns relating to roads, water supply, health services, education, civil supplies, and public amenities were documented and examined on the spot. In several instances, departmental representatives accompanying the outreach team initiated immediate corrective steps to address the grievances raised.

Residents across the villages highlighted long-standing demands such as improved drinking water access, better internal road connectivity, timely availability of civil supplies, and augmentation of health and educational services. According to officials present during the outreach, the intention was not merely to collect grievances but to ensure that a substantial number of issues were resolved immediately, while the remaining concerns were escalated to higher authorities for structured action. The emphasis remained on visible and prompt redressal, underscoring the administration’s attempt to strengthen trust between governance institutions and village communities.

The initiative also provided an opportunity for departmental heads to assess infrastructure gaps and service delivery bottlenecks directly at the field level. Officials examined the condition of public assets, availability of essential services, and the functioning of welfare schemes across the visited villages. By facilitating personal engagement rather than relying solely on paper-based assessments, the administration aimed to gain a clearer understanding of the lived challenges faced by rural households.

The District Administration has stated that the outreach drive will continue in the coming months and extend to all remaining villages across North and Middle Andaman. The long-term objective is to ensure that no household remains outside the purview of direct administrative interaction. With several remote and dispersed settlements across the district, officials believe such initiatives are essential to maintaining effective communication with citizens and monitoring the implementation of welfare programs.

The “Sampark se Samadhan – Prashasan Gaon ki Ore” initiative has emerged as a key component of the district’s governance strategy, focusing on taking administrative services to the doorstep rather than expecting residents to approach government offices. Through periodic visits, field inspections, and community-level engagement, the administration aims to strengthen service delivery systems, accelerate grievance redressal, and promote transparent governance practices across the region.

As the outreach continues, the administration maintains that its primary commitment is to ensure that citizens across North and Middle Andaman have equitable access to public services and timely resolution of local issues. The expanded coverage planned for the coming months is expected to bring the initiative to every village in the district, reinforcing the administration’s intent to create a more connected and responsive governance framework.
