Sri Vijaya Puram, 16 May: Freshly elected Zilla Parishad chiefs Prakash Adhikari and S Boominathan today paid their maiden courtesy call on Lieutenant Governor DK Joshi at Raj Niwas, briefing the Islands Development Agency vice-chairman on proposed roads, water schemes and rural livelihood packages queued for South Andaman. While details remain under wraps, officials confirmed the agenda covered funding channels and land clearances, two perennial bottlenecks for panchayat-level works.
The parishad team also sought synergy with UT verticals handling tourism and fisheries, arguing that decentralised projects deliver quicker gains when aligned to local geography. Raj Niwas sources termed the exchange constructive, noting that grass-roots inputs help the administration fine-tune island-specific interventions, especially after the twin shocks of pandemic revenue loss and cyclone damage.
