Fresh appointments have been issued for Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) in Sri Vijaya Puram Tehsil following new notifications from the Election Commission of India and the Andaman and Nicobar Administration. The update comes in continuation of earlier notifications and is intended to strengthen the preparation, revision, and maintenance of electoral rolls ahead of the upcoming phases of electoral work.
According to the official notification, the new appointments have been made under the Representation of the People Act, 1950. The Joint Secretary of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council and the Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies (HQ), South Andaman, have been designated as additional AEROs for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency. These additions expand the administrative capacity for handling electoral roll-related services in both urban and rural sections of Sri Vijaya Puram Tehsil.
Following this, the Chief Electoral Officer of the islands has also designated specific officers along with their assigned jurisdictions. The Assistant Commissioner (South Andaman) has been assigned polling stations numbered 163 to 225 covering Ward Nos. 1 to 13 under the Urban-I segment of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council. The Joint Secretary of the Municipal Council will oversee Ward Nos. 14 to 24, identified as Urban-II, covering polling stations numbered 226 to 273. For the rural segment of the tehsil, the Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies (HQ) will have jurisdiction over polling stations numbered 132 to 162.
These officers will work under the Electoral Registration Officer to support tasks including verification of applications, correction of entries, inclusion of new voters, and ensuring the accuracy of electoral records. The notification emphasises that electors in the region may approach their designated officers for any services related to the Special Intensive Revision and ongoing electoral roll processes. The administration has called for residents to check their details and make necessary corrections or updates to ensure error-free rolls.
The issuance of the updated list of AEROs reflects continuing efforts to streamline electoral administration across geographically scattered areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Sri Vijaya Puram Tehsil, which includes both urban clusters and rural pockets, requires a structured approach to ensure voter data is maintained seamlessly. Officials familiar with the process said the move would help manage workloads across administrative divisions and improve accessibility for electors during revisions.
The previous notifications, issued in June and updated periodically, had established the framework for electoral roll management across the islands. The latest additions build on that framework by assigning specific officers with defined jurisdictions, thereby reducing overlaps and clarifying points of contact for electors seeking assistance. The structured allocation of polling stations to designated officers is expected to ensure faster handling of verification processes and smoother coordination between electoral staff.
Residents of Sri Vijaya Puram and surrounding regions rely heavily on periodic updates to the electoral roll to ensure continued access to key electoral services. With new polling stations and demographic changes, the administration has been revising data to keep records updated. The presence of additional AEROs is intended to address demands arising during these revisions.
Administration officials have reiterated that residents should verify their voter information proactively and utilise the services offered by the newly designated officers. With the Special Intensive Revision underway, timely corrections will help avoid last-minute issues during election periods.
The notification marks a key step in reinforcing decentralised electoral management across the tehsil, focusing on improving service delivery and ensuring that residents have clearly identified officers to assist them in maintaining accurate electoral data.
