As part of the ongoing Special National Integration Camp, National Cadet Corps cadets undertook an educational and motivational visit to key Indian Coast Guard and tri-services facilities in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The visit was aimed at providing cadets with firsthand exposure to maritime defence operations, aviation assets and the professional life of personnel serving in strategically important island territories.
The programme began with a visit to the Indian Coast Guard base, Air Wing, where cadets were introduced to various aircraft, including Dornier surveillance planes and helicopters. The cadets were briefed on the role of aviation assets in maritime surveillance, search and rescue operations, coastal security and disaster response. The interaction provided insights into how aerial platforms support round-the-clock monitoring of vast maritime zones surrounding the islands.
Following the Air Wing visit, the cadets proceeded to the Coast Guard Region headquarters for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. At the facility, they were shown Indian Coast Guard ships Vijit and Vishwast. The visit offered cadets a closer look at shipboard operations, navigation systems and onboard equipment used for maritime law enforcement, search and rescue missions and environmental protection duties. Cadets were also given an overview of daily routines aboard Coast Guard vessels and the coordination required during extended sea deployments.
The interaction at the Coast Guard Region provided cadets with an understanding of the operational responsibilities of the Indian Coast Guard in safeguarding India’s maritime interests in the island territories. The exposure highlighted the technological capabilities deployed in maritime security and the importance of preparedness in a region that plays a critical role in the country’s strategic and economic landscape.
A key segment of the visit took place at the Dweepika Auditorium, where cadets interacted with senior officers from the Andaman and Nicobar Command. During the session, the cadets engaged with the Chief of Staff, Headquarters Andaman and Nicobar Command, along with the Commanding Officer of INS Jarawa. The interaction focused on leadership values, professional discipline and the role of the armed forces in national security.
The session emphasised the importance of dedication, service and commitment in uniformed services, while encouraging cadets to pursue excellence in their chosen fields. The interaction aimed to motivate cadets by sharing perspectives on leadership and responsibility in challenging operational environments such as island territories.
The visit was conducted in the presence of senior NCC officers, including the Group Commander and Camp Commandant, as well as commanding officers from the NCC Army and Naval units. Their presence ensured structured coordination of the programme and facilitated meaningful engagement between cadets and defence personnel.
The Special National Integration Camp is designed to promote national unity, discipline and leadership among youth by exposing them to diverse cultures, institutions and service environments. The visit to Indian Coast Guard and Andaman and Nicobar Command facilities formed a key component of this objective, offering cadets practical exposure beyond classroom-based training.
Officials associated with the programme indicated that such visits play an important role in broadening the outlook of cadets and strengthening their understanding of the nation’s defence framework. By interacting directly with operational units and senior officers, cadets gain clarity on the responsibilities and challenges associated with service in maritime and island environments.
The educational tour concluded with cadets expressing increased awareness of maritime security roles and the strategic significance of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands within India’s defence architecture. The exposure is expected to contribute positively to the overall learning experience of cadets participating in the Special National Integration Camp.
