Shipping Directorate Revises MV Sentinel Schedule on Little Andaman Route

Date:

Sri Vijaya Puram, June 2: The Directorate of Shipping Services has revised the sailing schedule of MV Sentinel operating on the Sri Vijaya Puram–Little Andaman route, rescheduling the vessel’s return journey due to administrative reasons.

According to the revised schedule, MV Sentinel will continue to depart from Sri Vijaya Puram for Little Andaman at 7 am on June 2 as originally planned. However, the vessel’s return voyage from Little Andaman, which was initially scheduled for 8 pm on June 2, has now been postponed and will instead depart at 7 am on June 3.

The change affects passengers who had booked tickets for the return sailing from Little Andaman to Sri Vijaya Puram on the evening of June 2. Authorities have clarified that all passengers holding valid tickets for the cancelled sailing will be permitted to travel on the rescheduled voyage without requiring any changes to their existing bookings.

The revised arrangement has been communicated to ensure that passengers are informed well in advance and can make necessary travel adjustments. Officials said the schedule modification was necessitated by administrative requirements but did not elaborate further on the reasons behind the decision.

MV Sentinel is one of the key passenger vessels operating between Sri Vijaya Puram and Little Andaman, serving as a vital transport link for residents, government personnel, traders and tourists travelling between the islands. Given the limited transport options available for inter-island connectivity, sailing schedules play a critical role in ensuring the movement of people and essential goods.

Little Andaman remains one of the important inhabited islands in the Union Territory, and regular shipping services are crucial for maintaining connectivity with the capital. Any changes to sailing schedules can have a direct impact on travel plans, cargo movement and access to essential services.

Officials have advised passengers to take note of the revised timings and plan their onward travel accordingly. Travelers arriving at or departing from Little Andaman have also been urged to stay in contact with shipping authorities for any further updates regarding vessel operations.

The Directorate of Shipping Services periodically revises schedules in response to operational, weather-related or administrative requirements. Such adjustments are particularly important in island territories where maritime transport serves as the primary mode of connectivity between distant locations.

Authorities reiterated that the departure from Sri Vijaya Puram on June 2 remains unchanged and that only the return leg of the journey has been affected. Passengers scheduled to travel to Little Andaman can therefore proceed with their plans as originally booked.

Shipping officials further assured passengers that efforts are being made to minimize inconvenience and maintain regular services on the route. They also encouraged travelers to verify sailing details through official channels before commencing their journey, especially during periods when operational changes may occur.

The revised schedule is expected to affect only a single sailing cycle, after which normal operations are likely to resume, subject to operational requirements and prevailing conditions.
