MP Bats for Students’ Right to ProtestSeeks amenities, assures talks after return to the islands.

Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray has urged the district administration to allow students to continue their peaceful protest, stating that their demands are “rightful” and must be heard in a democratic manner.

Ray has formally requested the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Superintendent of Police (SP), and Chief Secretary (CS) to ensure that students are permitted to carry on their agitation without disruption, provided it remains peaceful. At the same time, he appealed to the protesting students to maintain law and order and uphold discipline during the course of their demonstration.

The MP also called upon the administration to ensure that essential facilities such as ambulance services and drinking water are made available at the protest site, highlighting the need to safeguard the well-being of students and participants.

In a message conveyed to stakeholders, Ray assured that he will personally meet the students and parents at JNRM upon his return to the islands after the conclusion of the ongoing Parliamentary session. He stated that direct dialogue would be held to understand their concerns and explore a constructive way forward.

Meanwhile, the MP has already escalated the matter to senior leaders at the Centre. Ray informed that he has taken up the issue with Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, urging them to examine the matter and take appropriate steps.

Ray’s intervention is being seen as a move to balance the students’ right to democratic expression with the need to maintain public order, even as discussions on the broader issue continue.
