MP Nominates Members to DISHA Committee in South Andaman

Seven representatives from Panchayats and civil society to join district body overseeing Centrally Sponsored Schemes

Member of Parliament Bishnu Pada Ray has nominated seven individuals to serve as members of the District Development and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) for the South Andaman district. The nominations are in accordance with the guidelines governing the composition of the committee, which functions as a key mechanism for oversight and coordination of various Centrally Sponsored Schemes.

The DISHA Committee, chaired by the MP, brings together representatives from different levels of governance and civil society to ensure that developmental schemes are implemented efficiently and reach intended beneficiaries. The committee includes elected representatives from the Zilla Parishad, Municipal Council, and Panchayat Samiti, along with nominated members. It convenes once every quarter to review progress, identify bottlenecks, and strengthen inter-departmental coordination.

The upcoming meeting of the committee has been scheduled for October 31, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Zilla Parishad Hall, South Andaman. During this session, members will deliberate on the status of key welfare and infrastructure projects being executed under Centrally Sponsored Schemes. The review will focus on areas such as rural development, social welfare, healthcare, sanitation, and public infrastructure, ensuring accountability and timely implementation across the district.

The seven individuals nominated by the MP to the South Andaman DISHA Committee are Adhir Das, Pradhan of Wandoor Gram Panchayat; Yaghambaram, Pradhan of Calicut Gram Panchayat; Ajit Kumar Roy, Pradhan of Govindnagar Gram Panchayat; Jyoti, Pradhan of Sippighat Gram Panchayat; Tapasi Saha, Pradhan of Chouldhari Gram Panchayat; Anitha Mandal, Panchayat Samiti Member from R.K. Pur; and Sanjay Balan, an eminent and prominent social worker.

These nominations reflect a diverse representation from local governance institutions and community leadership, aimed at fostering participatory monitoring and accountability in development work. By including grassroots representatives and a civil society member, the committee seeks to ensure that feedback from rural areas and the public is integrated into the district’s planning and implementation process.

The DISHA framework, introduced by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, is designed to enhance transparency, promote citizen participation, and improve the convergence of government programs at the district level. The South Andaman committee will play a critical role in tracking progress, assessing impact, and recommending corrective measures to streamline project execution and optimize resource use.

As the chairperson of the committee, the MP will lead discussions on improving coordination between departments, addressing implementation gaps, and aligning local development priorities with national policy objectives. The upcoming quarterly meeting is expected to set the direction for improved monitoring mechanisms and strengthen collaboration among officials, elected bodies, and local institutions.

The constitution of the new DISHA Committee marks another step toward accountable and inclusive governance in South Andaman, ensuring that the benefits of centrally sponsored initiatives effectively reach communities across the district.
