A&N Tourism Dept to Host Monsoon Festival at Corbyn’s Cove with Beach Sports & Water Shows

The Department of Tourism, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, is set to host the Monsoon Tourism Festival 2025 at Corbyn’s Cove Beach on July 26 and 27. The festival, which begins at 10 AM each day, will showcase beachside sporting competitions, cultural vibrancy, and water sport attractions to promote the Islands as a premier beach tourism destination.

The highlight events include a Beach Volleyball Knockout Tournament for men and women, with cash prizes of ₹7,000 for winners and ₹5,000 for runners-up, along with trophies. Sponsored by the Department of Tourism, the tournament is expected to draw participation from both locals and visitors. A tug-of-war competition in both categories will also be conducted on both days, with prizes sponsored by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL).

Adding a dose of excitement to the festival will be a Jet Ski formation show by the Andaman Sea Adventure Association (ASAA), which is expected to draw crowds to the beachfront. The water sport demonstration aims to combine adventure and visual spectacle, enhancing the overall festival experience.

Registrations for the tug-of-war events will be held on-site until 9 AM on July 26. Interested teams can contact designated officials for more information. Each team must consist of at least 10 members. With on-the-spot registration available, the organizers aim to encourage community-wide involvement.

The Tourism Department has positioned the event as a showcase of the Islands’ potential as a monsoon travel destination. Beyond the sports and adventure elements, the festival is also expected to foster a sense of local pride and seasonal celebration.

The inclusion of beach sports is part of a broader effort to diversify tourism offerings and provide engaging, weather-resilient recreational activities. With monsoon often deterring travel in coastal regions, the event is designed to turn the season into a feature rather than a limitation.

Supported by the Directorate of Education for technical assistance, the event is intended to reflect a coordinated, multi-departmental approach to tourism promotion. It also serves as a platform for public participation and cultural engagement.

The festival is anticipated to attract not just residents but also tourists who are in the Islands during this time. It offers a rare combination of local competition, adventure sport, and natural ambiance at a time when beach destinations typically see a lull.

The Monsoon Tourism Festival is part of the Administration’s ongoing strategy to extend the tourism calendar year-round and integrate community activities into mainstream visitor experiences. The event’s success could serve as a model for future seasonal festivals aimed at sustaining tourism flows and community engagement throughout the year.
