Every Day Is a Struggle”: Family of Missing Andaman Hotelier Pleads for Answers

Wife of hotelier missing in Chennai seeks support from local media and police

Missing :Niyamat Ali, resident of Sri Vijaya Puram

More than two months after Andaman hotelier Niamat Ali went missing in Chennai, his family continues to wait for answers. His wife, Mandeep Kaur, has now appealed to both the media and the police in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands to support her in pursuing the case and put pressure on Chennai authorities for a faster investigation.

Ali, who managed a hotel business in Sri Vijaya Puram, was last seen on July 27, 2025, after arriving at Chennai Airport from the islands. According to his wife, he had informed her of his safe arrival and that he was heading towards his regular accommodation. Later that evening, however, both of his mobile numbers went unreachable, and he has not been heard from since.

Police sources have told The Wave Andaman that one potential suspect was interrogated by Chennai Police, but nothing substantial has come out so far in the matter. This particular suspect, according to police sources, had a long-running property dispute with Niamat Ali. However, as of now, the suspect continues to remain out of custody and no hard evidence has been found against him.

The case was first reported at PS Aberdeen in Sri Vijaya Puram and later transferred to Chennai police, who officially registered it at St. Thomas Mount Airport Police Station. Since then, the matter has remained under investigation in Chennai, but the family claims no significant updates have been shared.

A team from Andaman & Nicobar Police had earlier travelled to Chennai to assist local authorities in the missing person probe. Despite this, the family says progress has been slow, leaving them in prolonged uncertainty.

Speaking to The Wave Andaman, Kaur expressed her deep distress over the prolonged uncertainty. “I have full faith in the Chennai police, but it has been over a month without clarity. As the missing man is a son of these islands, I appeal to the local media and police to help us by ensuring the case is pursued with urgency,” she said.

Kaur, said the absence of her husband has left her struggling emotionally and mentally. With two young children, regularly asking for their father, she described the ordeal as heartbreaking. “Every day is a struggle when the children ask where their father is, and I have no answer. Life has not been the same anymore,” she added.

The family continues to rely on updates from the Chennai police while urging island authorities to extend their influence in the matter. Kaur emphasised that she does not question the ongoing investigation but wishes for greater transparency and speed in the proceedings.

For now, the family remains in limbo, anxiously waiting for news. With faith placed in both law enforcement and public support, Kaur hopes that renewed attention to her husband’s case may help accelerate the search.
