Missing Minor Girl from South Andaman Traced in West Bengal, Brought Back Safely

A minor girl reported missing from her residence in Dollygunj on March 1, 2026, was successfully located in a remote village in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, and safely returned to South Andaman, officials confirmed. The girl was accompanied by a minor boy at the time of recovery.

The case was initially registered at Police Station Pahargaon following a complaint filed by the girl’s family. An investigation was launched immediately to determine her whereabouts, with field searches coordinated across multiple locations. Technical inputs and digital leads from the district cyber crime unit and technical cell played a key role in tracing the minors.

Authorities collaborated with Police Station Kothwali in West Bengal to confirm the location and ensure the safe recovery of the children. Both minors were found in good health and were first presented before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island, following legal procedures. Subsequently, they were escorted to Sri Vijaya Puram under official supervision.

The operation was conducted as part of a wider child safety initiative within the district, highlighting the use of coordinated field work and digital intelligence in locating missing children. It also demonstrates inter-state cooperation between law enforcement agencies to ensure the protection of minors.

Officials have advised the public to report any suspicious activity involving children or potential threats to safety immediately. Emergency numbers provided for such cases include 112 (ERSS), 03192-232100 (Police Control Room), and 03192-236641 (SP office, South Andaman). Authorities assured that the identities of informants would remain strictly confidential.

This incident underscores ongoing concerns about child safety and the importance of timely reporting when minors go missing. Authorities emphasized that swift action combined with inter-agency coordination is critical in locating missing children and preventing potential harm.

Parents and guardians are advised to maintain vigilance regarding children’s movements and to report any unusual absences promptly. The recovery also reinforces the need for awareness of digital and technical monitoring methods that can aid in locating missing persons across regional boundaries.

The successful tracing and recovery of the minors comes amid heightened efforts to strengthen child protection mechanisms in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Officials stress that sustained coordination between law enforcement, community representatives, and social welfare institutions is essential to ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable children.

With both children returned safely, authorities continue to monitor the welfare of minors in the district and urge residents to actively contribute to safeguarding efforts by reporting credible information regarding missing persons or suspicious activities.
