Dr. R.P. Hospital in Mayabunder has expanded its emergency response capacity with the induction of a new ambulance, aimed at improving patient transportation and timely medical intervention across North & Middle Andaman. The ambulance was officially inaugurated and flagged off by Sushant Padha, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of North & Middle Andaman, in the presence of Additional District Magistrate S. Krishna Chaitanya, local PRI members, hospital officials, and staff.
The addition of the ambulance is expected to bolster emergency medical services in the district, particularly benefiting residents in remote and hard-to-reach areas. Hospital authorities highlighted that timely transportation plays a critical role in reducing response times for critical patients and enhancing overall healthcare delivery in the islands.
During the event, Deputy Commissioner Padha emphasized the importance of strengthening healthcare infrastructure to ensure rapid and efficient medical assistance for the community. He stressed that augmenting resources like ambulances is a crucial step toward bridging gaps in healthcare accessibility for residents living far from medical facilities.

Hospital officials and staff underlined the operational benefits of the new vehicle, noting that it would allow the medical team to respond more swiftly to emergencies and provide safer, more reliable transport for patients requiring specialized care. Representatives from local governance bodies, including PRI members, attended the ceremony and expressed support for continued initiatives aimed at improving the district’s healthcare services.
The introduction of this ambulance aligns with broader efforts by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration to enhance emergency medical infrastructure and ensure that remote communities have timely access to essential health services. Observers noted that emergency medical services in the district have historically faced challenges due to geographic constraints, and the new ambulance is expected to mitigate delays in patient transfers from outlying areas to primary and secondary care facilities.
Officials confirmed that the ambulance is fully equipped with necessary medical supplies and life-support facilities, enabling healthcare professionals to provide care during transit. This move is expected to improve patient outcomes and enhance the hospital’s capacity to manage urgent medical cases effectively.
The inauguration ceremony also highlighted ongoing collaborations between the administration, hospital staff, and local governance representatives to prioritize public health and emergency preparedness. The event reinforced the administration’s commitment to expanding healthcare infrastructure and improving medical response systems to meet the growing needs of North & Middle Andaman’s population.
With the operationalization of the new ambulance, Dr. R.P. Hospital is poised to deliver faster, safer, and more efficient emergency services, strengthening the overall healthcare network in the district. The initiative reflects a continued focus on upgrading medical infrastructure and ensuring accessible health services for communities across the islands.
