The Department of Environment and Forests, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, will organise a two-day Mangrove Workshop on March 21 and 22, 2026, in Sri Vijaya Puram, aimed at strengthening dialogue on mangrove conservation and management practices in the country, with a specific focus on the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
According to the department, the workshop will serve as a common platform for experts, researchers, scientists, forest officials, teachers, students, members of the public, and other stakeholders to discuss recent trends, challenges, and management strategies related to mangrove ecosystems. The initiative seeks to encourage knowledge sharing and dissemination on scientific, ecological, and community-based aspects of mangrove conservation.

The workshop will cover a range of themes central to coastal ecology and sustainable management. Key focus areas include the role of mangroves in coastal protection and climate change mitigation, mangrove biodiversity and associated marine life, and the scope of eco-tourism within mangrove forests. Discussions will also address mangrove restoration techniques, best practices in conservation, and the role of community participation and livelihood opportunities linked to mangrove ecosystems.
In connection with the event, the department has invited research papers from research scholars, subject experts, and professionals involved in the scientific management of mangroves. Selected papers will be presented during the workshop sessions. The last date for submission of abstracts is February 10, 2026.
Abstracts may be submitted via email to dcfwp@and.nic.in or cf-wildlife@and.nic.in, the department stated. Detailed guidelines for paper submission are available on the official website of the Department of Environment and Forests at www.forest.and.nic.in.
For additional information or clarification regarding the workshop, interested participants may contact the Office of the Deputy Conservator of Forests (Working Plan), Haddo, Sri Vijaya Puram, at telephone number 03192-232780.
Mangroves play a critical role in safeguarding coastlines, supporting marine biodiversity, and sustaining livelihoods in island ecosystems such as the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The upcoming workshop is expected to facilitate focused deliberations on conservation priorities and management practices relevant to fragile coastal environments, while promoting collaboration among academic institutions, government agencies, and local stakeholders.
