Diglipur, September 21: A man from R.K. Gram died after drowning while bathing in the Mangan Nallah area of Diglipur on September 20, with police initiating an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Anil Manjhi, a resident of R.K. Gram.
According to information received from sources, Manjhi had gone to the area near Mangan Nallah, where water flows down from the Saddle Peak region. The site is located between the R.K. Gram and Diglipur Panchayat areas and is known for its flowing stream.
Sources said Manjhi entered a deeper portion of the stream while bathing and was unable to return to the surface. He subsequently drowned.
Following information about the incident, police personnel reached the spot and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. Revenue Department personnel and local villagers were also present at the location and assisted during the response.
The exact circumstances leading to the drowning, including the sequence of events before Manjhi entered the deeper section of the stream, have not yet been established. Police are examining the incident, while further details are awaited.
The incident comes against the backdrop of another drowning reported at a popular water body in South Andaman. On July 29, two young men drowned at Tirur No. 2 Waterfall in the Colinpur Panchayat area.
The circumstances of the two incidents are separate, and no connection between them has been established.
