A modern e-Patwarkhana has been inaugurated at the Patwari Office in Ramkrishna Pur Village, Little Andaman, marking a significant step in digitising land and revenue services for local residents. The initiative aims to make essential records and citizen-centric services more accessible in remote areas through the use of upgraded IT infrastructure.
The facility was opened during a visit by the Additional District Magistrate/Sub-Divisional Magistrate of South Andaman, accompanied by senior police and administrative officials. As part of the launch, digitally certified documents were issued to applicants, demonstrating the system’s capacity for prompt and paperless service delivery.
The e-Patwarkhana is designed to serve not only Ramkrishna Pur but also surrounding villages. It enables residents to access key land records and revenue documents online without the need to travel long distances. An e-Corner has also been established on-site, allowing citizens to use various government online portals for services beyond land records.
Officials said the new service is part of the Administration’s wider “Digital Governance at the Doorstep” strategy, which is focused on improving service speed, reducing red tape, and ensuring greater transparency. The inclusion of an e-Corner widens its utility, giving people the means to carry out a range of administrative tasks, from applying for certificates to accessing scheme benefits, using digital systems.
By issuing documents digitally at the time of launch, authorities sought to showcase the practical efficiency of the platform. The shift towards electronic records is expected to cut processing times significantly, improve accuracy, and reduce the risk of document loss or damage.
In areas like Little Andaman, where transport and connectivity can be challenging, the ability to obtain official documents locally is expected to save residents both time and cost. The facility’s role in facilitating access to government services could also lead to higher citizen engagement with administrative processes.
The project reflects a growing emphasis on integrating digital tools into governance, ensuring that technological upgrades are not confined to urban centres. Authorities have indicated that more such facilities are planned for remote regions, underlining a commitment to extending digital infrastructure across the islands.
The launch of the e-Patwarkhana adds to ongoing efforts to modernise local administration, streamline workflows, and bring services in line with national initiatives for e-governance. Residents of the area now have a one-stop facility for land and related records, coupled with access to multiple other digital services, setting a precedent for similar expansions in other parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
