Sri Vijaya Puram, June 19: Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju will undertake a three-day visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from June 19 to June 21, during which he will participate in public outreach programmes, review key development initiatives and attend the International Day of Yoga 2026 celebrations.
The visit will focus on assessing developmental works, engaging with stakeholders and participating in events linked to the Government of India’s public outreach initiatives. Rijiju is also scheduled to attend a series of programmes highlighting infrastructure development and governance initiatives undertaken over the past 12 years.
According to the official schedule, the minister will begin his engagements on June 19 with a visit to Beodnabad, where he will distribute a booklet detailing achievements recorded during 12 years of the Modi Government under a Special Public Outreach Campaign.
Later in the day, he will visit the organic coconut farm of Padma Shri awardee K. Chellammal at Rangachang. During the visit, he will plant a sapling under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, an initiative promoting environmental awareness and tree plantation.
On June 20, Rijiju will undertake the “Pragati Path Yatra”, a tour of major development projects implemented in the Islands over the past decade. The itinerary includes visits to Flag Point, Gandhi Park and the new terminal building of Veer Savarkar International Airport.
The minister is also scheduled to attend the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sammelan at Hotel Coral Cove in Minnie Bay. The programme forms part of wider outreach efforts aimed at showcasing developmental initiatives and engaging with different sections of society.
In the evening, Rijiju will participate in the Andaman Ideas Summit 2026, which is slated to be held at Hotel Lemon Tree. The event is expected to bring together stakeholders and participants for discussions related to development and policy matters.
The final day of the visit, June 21, coincides with the International Day of Yoga 2026. Rijiju will attend the main Yoga Day celebration as the chief guest.
The primary venue for the Yoga Day programme has been designated as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island. However, authorities have made contingency arrangements in view of possible adverse weather conditions. In the event of unfavourable weather, the celebrations will be shifted to the auditorium of Government Girls Senior Secondary School.
The three-day visit is expected to combine public engagement, review of development initiatives and participation in national observances, with programmes scheduled across multiple locations in the Islands.
