Kadamtala Police recorded a significant breakthrough in a residential theft case with the arrest of an accused and the recovery of stolen valuables, following an investigation that spanned less than two weeks. The development came on January 18, 2026, in connection with a theft reported earlier this month from Shantanu village in the Kadamtala area of North and Middle Andaman.
The case was registered on January 5, 2026, after the police received a complaint regarding the theft of gold ornaments, cash and household articles from a private residence. Based on the complaint, an FIR bearing No. 01/26 dated January 5, 2026, was lodged at Police Station Kadamtala, and investigation was initiated immediately. Given the nature of the offence and the value of the stolen property, the police moved swiftly to trace those involved.
A special investigation team was constituted to handle the case. The team was led by the Station House Officer of Police Station Kadamtala and included officers and personnel drawn from different ranks, combining field-level experience with operational support. The team followed a structured and methodical approach, focusing on both ground-level verification and technical inputs to identify leads connected to the theft.
According to the police, the investigation involved the use of technical tools and the collection of actionable intelligence to track the movements and activities of the suspected individual. The team carried out sustained efforts to verify information, examine possible concealment points and establish the chain of events surrounding the theft. These steps eventually led to the identification and apprehension of one accused person in the case.
During interrogation, the involvement of the accused in the offence was established, which in turn resulted in the recovery of stolen property. The police recovered gold ornaments valued at approximately ₹19,56,409, marking the most substantial portion of the stolen assets. In addition to the jewellery, cash amounting to ₹46,500 and one LPG cylinder were also recovered from concealed locations identified during the investigation.
The recovery of high-value gold ornaments is being seen as a key outcome of the investigation, particularly given the short time frame between the registration of the FIR and the arrest. Police officials indicated that the recoveries were made after carefully tracing the movement of the stolen items and identifying locations where they had been hidden.
Following the arrest and recovery, the accused was produced before the court at Mayabunder. The court subsequently remanded the accused to judicial custody. The investigation in the case is continuing, with the police examining whether there are additional links or aspects that need to be addressed as part of the probe.
The investigation is being carried out under the close supervision of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Rangat, and under the overall supervision of the Superintendent of Police of North and Middle Andaman district. Police officials stated that supervisory oversight is being maintained to ensure that the investigation proceeds in a thorough and lawful manner.
The police have also appealed to the general public to share any credible information related to crimes or illegal activities. Citizens have been advised to approach their nearest police station or use emergency and helpline numbers to report information. The police have assured that the identity of informers will be kept confidential and that suitable rewards will be provided for information that leads to concrete action.
The case underscores the focus on prompt response and recovery in property-related offences in the region, as the police continue efforts to strengthen crime detection and investigation across North and Middle Andaman.
