Yet another tragic incident has been reported from the Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM) girls’ hostel, Sri Vijaya Puram, where a second-year Geography student was found dead on campus. The student, a resident of Diglipur, is suspected to have died by suicide, according to preliminary information.
College authorities and police were alerted soon after the incident came to light. Officials reached the hostel premises and initiated standard procedures. The exact circumstances leading to the student’s death remain unclear at this stage.
Sources said that forensic evidence is being collected and examined as part of the investigation.
Authorities have informed the student’s family and said they are extending all possible assistance during this difficult time. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
The incident has once again raised concerns over student wellbeing and mental health support in educational institutions across the islands. In recent times, repeated reports of student deaths have prompted calls for strengthened counselling services, better monitoring mechanisms in hostels, and timely intervention to address stress and mental health challenges among young students.
Police have stated that no conclusions will be drawn until the forensic reports and post-mortem findings are received.
