Jindal Steel Ltd. has significantly expanded its manufacturing capabilities, emerging as India’s largest heat treatment player with a capacity of 60,000 tonnes per month. The expansion marks a major milestone for the company and is expected to strengthen domestic production of high-end steel products that were earlier dependent on imports.
With the enhanced capacity, Jindal Steel now offers an extensive range of Furnace Normalised (FN) and Quenched & Tempered (Q&T) plates. The upgraded facility can process steel plates ranging from 6 mm to 200 mm in thickness and widths of up to five metres, enabling the company to cater to diverse industrial requirements.
Officials said the company has deployed advanced DUBONG furnace technology, which allows precise temperature control and ensures uniform mechanical properties across the entire plate. This technological upgrade is aimed at meeting stringent quality standards required by critical sectors such as defence, infrastructure, and heavy engineering.

The expansion is also seen as a boost to the Centre’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, as it enables domestic manufacturing of specialised, high-value steel grades that were previously imported into the country. The expanded product portfolio includes high-strength Q&T steel with strength levels of 2,000 MPa and above, abrasion-resistant steel exceeding 600 BHN, defence-grade plates with assured ballistic properties for armoured vehicles, and specialised tool, die, and alloy steels.
Speaking on the development, S.K. Pradhan, Head of Flat Products at Jindal Steel, said that high-quality heat-treated plates manufactured by the company are playing an increasingly important role in enhancing India’s industrial competitiveness. He noted that the expanded capacity would support manufacturers across sectors such as infrastructure, engineering, energy, and heavy machinery in producing globally competitive products.
According to the company, the availability of premium, domestically produced heat-treated plates is expected to contribute to India’s export growth by enabling manufacturers to meet international specifications without relying on imported materials.

Jindal Steel Limited is among India’s leading integrated steel producers, operating on a mine-to-metal model with captive resources and advanced manufacturing facilities. The company has invested over USD 12 billion and operates major plants in Angul, Raigarh, and Patratu, along with strategic operations in India and Africa. Its product portfolio supports key sectors including infrastructure, construction, and manufacturing, with a focus on long-term sustainability and industrial growth.
The latest expansion further consolidates Jindal Steel’s position in the Indian steel sector and is expected to have a wider impact on downstream industries seeking reliable, high-performance steel solutions.
