O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) has marked a significant milestone by securing leading national and global positions in its first-ever participation in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2026, emerging as one of India’s top-performing multidisciplinary institutions in the globally recognised rankings.

According to the rankings released by Times Higher Education, JGU was placed first in India for Law, positioning itself within the top 300 universities globally among institutions from 53 countries. In Psychology, the university secured the second position in India and ranked within the top 500 globally among universities from 64 countries and territories. JGU also recorded strong performances in Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business and Economics, strengthening its standing as a comprehensive global university.

The rankings place JGU among hundreds of leading institutions worldwide and reflect consistent academic performance across multiple disciplines. The Times Higher Education Subject Rankings 2026 evaluated 2,191 universities from 115 countries and territories, with inclusion limited to institutions meeting strict benchmarks for data credibility, teaching standards and research performance. JGU’s performance in this selective assessment highlights its rapid academic advancement and growing international reputation.

The THE World University Rankings assess universities across four core missions, teaching, research, knowledge transfer through industry engagement, and international outlook. Research-related indicators account for approximately 60 to 65 per cent of the overall methodology, covering research environment, quality, outlook and industry impact.

For subject-level rankings, THE applies 18 performance indicators tailored to individual disciplines and grouped under five pillars: teaching, research environment, research quality, international outlook and industry engagement. JGU demonstrated notable strengths across these pillars, particularly in international outlook and research quality.

International outlook emerged as JGU’s strongest pillar in Law, Psychology and Social Sciences, reflecting high levels of international faculty participation, student diversity and global research collaboration. In Arts and Humanities and Business and Economics, research quality was the highest-performing pillar, underscoring strong citation impact and international research influence.

Naveen Jindal, Founding Chancellor of O.P. Jindal Global University, said the rankings reflected sustained institutional effort and strategic leadership. He credited faculty members, researchers and professional staff for ensuring data integrity and advancing the university’s global benchmarking initiatives, which have aligned JGU with leading universities worldwide.

Founding Vice Chancellor C. Raj Kumar said the rankings firmly position JGU as a leading multidisciplinary institution in India at a time when the country has the second-highest number of ranked universities globally, after the United States. He said the outcome reflected a shared commitment to academic rigour, research innovation, international collaboration and institutional excellence.

The university’s debut performance also reflects rapid progress in research impact, strong international engagement, and consistent academic outcomes across disciplines. Padmanabha Ramanujam, Dean of the Office of Academic Governance and Student Life, said the achievement marked a defining moment in JGU’s academic journey and reflected the founding vision and sustained institutional commitment that has shaped its growth.

The rankings further underline India’s rising profile in global higher education and establish JGU as a prominent contributor to the country’s expanding international academic presence.
