Sri Vijaya Puram, April 13: Marking the 134th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, over 360 spirited young participants from across the district took to the streets of Sri Vijaya Puram in a powerful ‘Jai Bhim Padyatra’ organized by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs in collaboration with Nehru Yuva Kendra.
The symbolic march, flagged off from the historic Cellular Jail by Gyan Sheel Dubey, Deputy HoO, Directorate of Education, resonated with messages of justice, equality, and constitutional values. Holding aloft placards and posters bearing quotes and images of Babasaheb Ambedkar, the youth covered key city spots including Narayan Chowk, Clock Tower, Bengali Club, and LIC Building before culminating the walk at Ambedkar Auditorium, SVPMC.
At the auditorium, floral tributes were offered to Dr. Ambedkar’s statue and portrait, followed by a collective reading of the Preamble to the Constitution- an emotional moment where participants pledged to uphold the democratic values laid down by the chief architect of India’s Constitution.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest urged students to walk in the footsteps of Dr. Ambedkar and contribute toward building a “Viksit Bharat”, an inclusive and empowered India anchored in education and justice.
The event closed with a vote of thanks by S.R. Biswas, Regional Coordinator, NYKS, who appreciated the collaboration between departments, institutions, and volunteers in successfully executing the commemorative padyatra.
