In a concerted effort to enhance animal health and bolster rural livelihoods, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services has initiated a series of veterinary health camps across the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. These camps aim to provide essential veterinary services to remote and rural areas, ensuring the well-being of livestock and, by extension, the communities that depend on them.
The Veterinary Hospital in Ramkrishnapur spearheaded a weeklong schedule of camps, offering services such as preventive care, deworming, and infertility treatments. Additionally, awareness sessions on best management practices were conducted, with farmers showing keen interest in departmental schemes and subsidies.
Parallel initiatives were undertaken by the Veterinary Hospital in Rangat and the Veterinary Hospital in Campbell Bay, which extended their outreach to Shashtri Nagar, Gandhinagar, and Laxminagar. Mass deworming and health camps were also organized by the Veterinary Dispensary in Rangachang and the Veterinary Hospital in Webi. Similar efforts were mirrored by the Veterinary Dispensaries in Manglutan and Swaraj Dweep.
Collectively, these camps have treated a total of 2,394 animals and addressed 5,401 poultry cases, reflecting the extensive reach and impact of the initiative. By bringing veterinary services directly to the doorstep of rural farmers, the department aims to improve livestock health, increase productivity, and support the economic stability of rural communities.
