The Department of Tourism is set to host the Island Coconut Festival 2025 on May 31 and June 1 at the ITF Pavilion in Sri Vijaya Puram. The festival, themed ‘Celebrating Coconut – Culture, Cuisine & Crafts of the Islands,’ aims to promote coconut-based tourism and livelihoods, highlighting the traditional and modern uses of coconut in food, crafts, and wellness.
The event will feature stalls set up by government departments showcasing coconut-based items rooted in cultural traditions and economic practices. Competitions such as Coconut Rangoli, Coconut De-husking, and a Cooking competition based on coconut will be held, with cash prizes awarded to winners. Participants in the cooking competition are allowed to bring cooked food from home, with garnishing and plating to be done on-site on May 30.
Additionally, a creative Kids Zone will be set up in association with the Education Department. Interested children are advised to report on May 30 by 3 pm at the ITF Ground near Stall No.21.
Applications for remaining food stalls and kiosks have been invited from interested vendors, with the last date for receiving applications extended till May 29 by 11 am. For clarification, contact Rabia Mustafa, Manager (Operational), Directorate of IP&T, Sri Vijaya Puram.
