Early Wins Mark Inter-Primary Football Knockout Matches

Date:

The Inter Primary School Football League-cum-Knockout Tournament 2026 got underway at the GSSS Girls Ground in Sri Vijaya Puram, with several matches played as part of the opening phase of the competition organised by the Deputy Education Office, South Andaman. The tournament brings together primary schools from the region, offering a competitive platform for young footballers to showcase their skills.

In the matches played, GSSS South Point registered a 3-0 victory over SSS Carmel, setting an early tone for the tournament. GSSS Prothrapur followed with a 4-1 win against SS Sagaritara, reflecting a strong attacking performance. Saraswati Shishu Mandir secured a narrow 1-0 win over GMSSS Aberdeen in a closely contested encounter, while GMS Dollygunj edged past GSSS Garacharma with a 6-4 scoreline in one of the highest-scoring matches of the day.

Officials associated with the organising committee indicated that the league-cum-knockout format is designed to ensure maximum participation while maintaining competitive intensity. The structure allows teams to gain match exposure while also introducing the pressure of elimination rounds, which are seen as valuable for developing resilience and tactical awareness among young players.

The tournament is being conducted under the supervision of the education department, with matches scheduled at designated venues to ensure safety and smooth coordination. Emphasis has been placed on adherence to sporting rules, fair play and age-appropriate competition standards, in line with school sports guidelines.

Sports activities at the primary level are increasingly being viewed as an important component of holistic education, contributing to physical fitness, teamwork and discipline. Officials noted that tournaments such as the Inter Primary School Football League help identify early talent while encouraging regular participation in outdoor sports among students.

Teachers and school staff accompanying the teams have been tasked with ensuring discipline and welfare of participants during the matches. Organisers have also made arrangements for basic medical support and match officials to oversee proceedings.

The tournament is expected to continue over the coming days, with further knockout matches determining progression to the later stages. Education department officials indicated that the event forms part of ongoing efforts to promote sports culture in schools and to provide structured competitive opportunities for students at the primary level.

As the league progresses, attention will turn to upcoming fixtures and emerging teams, with early results already offering a glimpse into the competitive landscape of the tournament.
