Flight operations at Sri Vijaya Puram Airport witnessed a fresh round of disruptions on Monday as delays reported across IndiGo’s national network spilled over into services bound for the region. Multiple arrivals and departures, including flights from Mumbai, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, reflected staggered timings, extending wait hours for passengers and tightening airport traffic flow during peak hours.
According to the day’s flight movement updates, IndiGo’s Mumbai–Sri Vijaya Puram service 6E 5286, scheduled to land at 11:40 am, was delayed by 25 minutes, pushing its adjusted arrival to 12:05 pm. The airline did not cite a specific operational reason in the publicly available schedules, though tracking platforms indicated cascading delays in Mumbai sector rotations. With the Mumbai hub experiencing congestion amid winter traffic and limited turnaround slots, the delay added pressure to an already compact ground-handling window in Sri Vijaya Puram.
The ripple effect was more visible on the Chennai sector, one of the region’s busiest links. IndiGo’s Chennai-bound 6E 2698, scheduled for 13:00 hours, was marked cancelled for the day, making it the only cancellation at Sri Vijaya Puram Airport. The cancellation mirrored broader disruptions in Chennai, where multiple carriers recently reported extended hold times and weather-linked constraints. For travellers, Chennai flights often serve as key connections for same-day onward journeys, making the cancellation particularly disruptive for those depending on short transit windows.
Airport data showed that of all scheduled movements, five flights had already departed by mid-day, carrying a minor average delay of five minutes. While not severe, the overall picture suggested uneven pacing throughout the day, with some sectors maintaining regular flow and others facing setbacks driven by network-level challenges.
The national aviation grid has been witnessing a seasonal rise in traffic along with operational constraints, resulting in scattered delays across metro hubs. IndiGo, being one of the country’s largest carriers, often experiences network-wide effects when a major hub undergoes prolonged disruption. Such patterns typically extend into peripheral sectors, including routes to regions like Sri Vijaya Puram where turnaround times are narrower and daily service frequencies limited.
For Sri Vijaya Puram, where connectivity relies heavily on punctual commercial operations from mainland cities, even minor deviations can amplify congestion at arrival points, baggage belts, and security recheck lanes. Daytime operations also run on tighter sequencing due to limited parking bays and the airport’s single-runway configuration. As delays accumulate, airlines often engage in resequencing operations, adjusting boarding and refuelling cycles to maintain dispatch reliability for upcoming departures.
Despite the day’s delays and the single cancellation, overall flight movement continued without major operational halts. Airport sources indicated that runway operations remained normal and air traffic services did not report weather-linked issues over Sri Vijaya Puram. The majority of disruptions were tied to incoming aircraft arriving behind schedule, leaving ground teams with narrower handling windows.
Passengers were advised through airline channels to monitor updates for afternoon and evening flights, particularly those originating from metro cities experiencing stacked delays. With holiday travel demand building up, aviation authorities have urged operators to tighten turnaround management and improve passenger advisories to reduce inconvenience.
For now, Sri Vijaya Puram Airport remains operational with staggered but manageable traffic flow, even as nationwide IndiGo delays continue to shape the day’s flight landscape.
