The Andaman and Nicobar Islands are set to join the countrywide search for skilled talent as ITI Dollygunj prepares to host the IndiaSkills – Andaman and Nicobar Islands 2025 competition. The event, scheduled for November, will be followed by district-level contests, with winners earning the opportunity to represent the Union Territory at the national stage. The initiative, part of the IndiaSkills framework, is designed to identify and nurture young talent capable of competing on international platforms.
The IndiaSkills competition provides a stage for young Islanders to showcase expertise across a wide range of technical and vocational trades. From digital construction and cyber security to aircraft maintenance and dental prosthetics, the contests will test practical ability, creativity and problem-solving skills. The winners from the islands will travel to the national competition, where they will face counterparts from across India, and potentially qualify to represent the country at global skills contests.
For participants, the event is more than a competition. It is a chance to gain recognition, build confidence and connect with industry experts. The Department of Training, through ITI Dollygunj, has urged students, trainees and young professionals to participate actively, highlighting the long-term benefits of exposure to such platforms.
Eligibility criteria are tailored to encourage wide participation. The competition is open to candidates up to 22 years of age for most trades, while in select advanced skills such as additive manufacturing, mechatronics, optoelectronic technology, and Industry 4.0, the age limit has been extended to 25. This ensures that both students and young professionals in emerging sectors can put their abilities to the test.
To register, candidates must apply online via the Skill India Digital portal. The last date for registration has been fixed as September 30, 2025. Organizers have clarified that applications will not be accepted after the deadline, underscoring the importance of timely enrollment. A step-by-step handholding mechanism has also been put in place by ITI Dollygunj, with the TCPC Cell offering guidance to help candidates navigate the registration process and prepare for the contests.
The competition’s significance lies in the opportunity it presents to the islands’ youth, who often face limited exposure to large-scale events due to geographical isolation. By hosting the preliminary rounds locally and sending winners to the national level, the administration aims to bridge this gap and ensure that young Islanders compete on equal footing with peers from across the country.
The IndiaSkills framework has been a flagship programme to promote vocational excellence in India. It is aligned with the larger Skill India mission, which seeks to create a skilled workforce capable of driving economic growth. For remote territories like the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, participation adds an additional layer of importance, demonstrating that skilled talent exists in diverse regions beyond mainland hubs.
The exposure gained through these contests often translates into career opportunities. National-level winners have previously been scouted by industries, offered scholarships, or even selected to represent India at WorldSkills competitions. For the participants from the islands, the possibility of international exposure adds motivation to prepare rigorously for the contests.
Beyond individual benefits, the competition also showcases the region’s capacity to train and nurture skilled professionals. ITI Dollygunj’s involvement reflects the role of technical institutions in equipping youth with industry-relevant skills and connecting them with national platforms. By facilitating registration, training and participation, the institution reinforces its position as a hub for skill development in the islands.
As the registration deadline approaches, the focus will be on mobilizing eligible candidates to seize the opportunity. With disciplines spanning traditional trades and cutting-edge technologies, the IndiaSkills – Andaman and Nicobar Islands 2025 competition has the potential to highlight both the depth and diversity of talent in the territory.
For the young participants, the contests promise more than medals, they offer a pathway to careers, recognition and the pride of representing the islands on a national and potentially international stage. The coming months will reveal how the region’s youth rise to the challenge and stake their claim in India’s expanding skills movement.
