President Murmu to Host Indian Women’s World Cup Winners at Rashtrapati Bhawan

The Women’s ODI World Cup-winning Indian cricket team will meet President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Thursday morning to mark their historic victory.

According to information received by IANS, the players are scheduled to leave for Rashtrapati Bhawan around 10:15 a.m., with the meeting and felicitation set to begin at 12 noon. The interaction with the President will be the team’s final formal engagement before the players disperse to their respective hometowns.

On Wednesday evening, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence at Lok Kalyan Marg. During the felicitation, the Prime Minister congratulated the team for their remarkable achievement and praised their resilience in making a strong comeback after three consecutive defeats in the league stage. He also commended them for overcoming social media trolling and maintaining focus throughout the tournament.

The Indian players, dressed in formal attire with their winner’s medals, presented a signed team jersey to the Prime Minister as a token of gratitude. Modi interacted with the players and the support staff, acknowledging their contribution to Indian cricket’s growing global stature.

The team arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday evening amid tight security arrangements at their hotel. Celebrations continued as players Jemimah Rodrigues, Radha Yadav, and Sneh Rana were seen dancing to dhol beats, joined by hotel staff and guests in joyous festivities following their World Cup win.

India ended a long wait for a major ICC title in senior women’s cricket after defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup final at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai, on Sunday. The win marks a defining moment in the history of Indian women’s cricket, solidifying their position as one of the most competitive teams on the international stage.

Following their meetings with the Prime Minister and the President, the players will return to their home states. Shafali Verma, who was named Player of the Match in the final, will travel to Nagaland to lead the North Zone team in the ongoing Inter Zonal T20 tournament.

The victory and subsequent recognition by national leaders underscore the growing importance of women’s sports in India and the continued efforts to promote gender equality in athletics.
