South Andaman Hosts First Block-Level Inclusive Sports Meet for Children with Special Needs

The Block Project Officer, Samagra Shiksha, South Andaman, has launched the first-ever Block-Level CwSN (Children with Special Needs) Inclusive Sports Meet at GSSS Bhatubasti School Ground. The two-day event, held on November 3 and 4, 2025, aims to promote inclusiveness, participation, and equal opportunities for CwSN students through sports and physical activities.

The event was inaugurated by Vikram Singh, Director (Education & Sports), who attended as the chief guest. In his address, he highlighted the significance of motivating CwSN students to take part in sports and other physical activities. He emphasized that sports can play a transformative role in building confidence, teamwork, and resilience among children with special needs.

Singh also directed all Physical Education Teachers (PETs) and Physical and Sports Resource Teachers (PSRTs) to provide maximum opportunities for these students to engage in sporting events. He encouraged schools to organize regular training sessions, play opportunities, and inclusive competitions that recognize the diverse abilities of every child. The Director assured that the Department of Education would provide all necessary facilities and assistance to promote sports at the school level, ensuring equal participation and accessibility.

The Inclusive Sports Meet, organized under the Samagra Shiksha initiative, is designed to foster physical fitness, discipline, and sportsmanship among students while building a healthy and confident young generation. The initiative aligns with the broader goals of inclusive education, which focus on integrating children with special needs into mainstream activities and nurturing their holistic development.

The two-day sports event features a range of track and field events, motor-skill-based activities, and team games tailored to suit the needs and capabilities of CwSN participants. The organizers have ensured that all necessary arrangements are in place to maintain accessibility, safety, and comfort for every participant.

The meet aims not only to enhance the sporting experience for CwSN students but also to encourage a sense of belonging and equality by integrating them with their peers. Teachers, parents, and students have expressed their appreciation for the initiative, calling it a positive step toward inclusive education and social integration.

Officials from the Department of Education and representatives from Samagra Shiksha, South Andaman, were present during the inaugural ceremony. The event is expected to witness enthusiastic participation from various schools in the block, highlighting the growing commitment toward inclusivity in education and sports.

The Block Project Officer, Samagra Shiksha, stated that such initiatives would continue to be organized to ensure that every child, irrespective of ability, has the opportunity to discover their potential and participate in activities that build both skill and confidence.

The Inclusive Sports Meet will conclude on November 4 with a closing ceremony and prize distribution to recognize the efforts and achievements of all participating students.
