IGNOU opens portal for December term-end exams, deadline set for October submission

Date:

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has begun the process of receiving examination forms for the December 2025 Term-End Examination (TEE), covering both Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online programmes. The exams will be conducted in pen-and-paper as well as computer-based modes starting from December 1, 2025.

Students eligible to appear have been directed to submit their examination forms through the student portal on the Samarth platform, accessible at https://exam.ignou.ac.in. Those already registered on the portal can log in to complete the form submission, while new users must first complete registration by selecting the “New Registration” option and following the provided instructions.

The last date for submission of the examination form without late fee is October 6, 2025. Submissions made between October 7 and October 20 will attract a late fee of Rs 1,100. After this date, no applications will be accepted. IGNOU has clarified that fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances, placing responsibility on students to complete the process correctly and within the stipulated timeframe.

The university has advised students to verify their results before filling the examination form to ensure eligibility. This precaution is aimed at avoiding issues related to course completion status or pending results that might otherwise affect candidacy.

For support and guidance, students have been provided contact details of the Regional Centre located at VIP Road, opposite to Air Cargo Complex, Sri Vijaya Puram. Assistance is available over phone at 03192-242888 and 03192-230111, or via email at rcportblair@ignou.ac.in. The Regional Centre will assist with technical issues, clarifications, or procedural doubts regarding form submission.

The December TEE is a major academic exercise for IGNOU, serving thousands of students across the country and in overseas centres. The dual mode of examination, offering both traditional pen-and-paper and computer-based tests, aims to accommodate diverse learner needs and logistical conditions.

By opening the online submission process well in advance, the university seeks to ensure smoother administration and avoid last-minute rushes. The introduction of a late fee window between October 7 and October 20 provides a limited grace period but reinforces the importance of timely compliance. Students who delay beyond this period risk exclusion from the exam cycle, potentially affecting their academic progress.

The move also reflects IGNOU’s continued adoption of digital systems, with the Samarth platform serving as a centralised hub for exam-related processes. Students are expected to maintain updated login credentials and regularly check official notifications to stay informed of any changes.

The December exams will cover a wide spectrum of courses across undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate programmes. Performance in the TEE is a critical determinant of progression and graduation for students enrolled in IGNOU’s flexible learning models. As such, proper completion of examination formalities is considered an essential step in academic continuity.

With the process now live, students are urged to act promptly, cross-check their results, and ensure they meet the requirements well before the deadline. The IGNOU December 2025 exams are set to play a decisive role in shaping outcomes for a large cohort of learners, reinforcing the importance of punctuality and adherence to official procedures.
