41-Year-Old Man Saved by Coast Guard After Suffering Seizure at Hut Bay, Little Andaman

A quick response by the Indian Coast Guard personnel at Hut Bay under the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) helped avert a medical emergency and save the life of a passenger who collapsed shortly after disembarking from a vessel at Hut Bay Jetty on July 21.

The incident occurred around 5:45 PM when Deputy Commandant Bimal Kumar Mansingh of ICG Ship C-150, who was on evening duty near the jetty, spotted a 41-year-old man lying unconscious and bleeding from the mouth. The man, accompanied by his elderly mother, had just arrived onboard MV Sentinel when he reportedly suffered a seizure, resulting in a head injury and lacerated mouth.

Reacting promptly, the officer alerted the Coast Guard Station Hut Bay, following which a response team was mobilised. Medical Officer Surg Lt Cdr Santhosh Kumar Thanugula led the emergency response, providing immediate first aid at the site. The team managed to stabilise the patient and keep him conscious until further medical help could be arranged.

The individual was then safely transported to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Hut Bay for continued treatment. As per sources, his condition was stable at the time of transfer.

The swift and coordinated action by the Indian Coast Guard under ANC drew appreciation from locals, who witnessed the efforts at the jetty. The intervention highlighted the preparedness of the Coast Guard in handling emergencies, especially in remote and geographically isolated locations like Little Andaman.

Officials said the incident reaffirms the Indian Coast Guard’s commitment not only to maritime safety but also to humanitarian assistance and disaster relief across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The ANC continues to play a critical role in supporting civilian life in far-flung island territories through timely intervention and dedicated service.

This lifesaving effort is the latest in a series of actions undertaken by the Coast Guard to assist island residents, reinforcing public trust in the force’s readiness and compassion in times of need.
