Sri Vijaya Puram, Aug. 2: Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty winds and rough sea conditions are expected to affect parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands over the coming days, prompting weather advisories for coastal residents and fishermen, with authorities cautioning against venturing into the sea during the forecast period.
According to the latest weather forecast, heavy rainfall ranging between 7 cm and 11 cm is very likely at one or two places over the Nicobar Islands. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph are also expected at one or two places across the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from August 2 to August 6.

The forecast further indicates that thunderstorms with gusty winds of 40-50 kmph and lightning are likely to continue at isolated places across the Islands on August 7.
Marine conditions are also expected to deteriorate during the week. Squally winds with speeds reaching 35-45 kmph, occasionally gusting up to 55 kmph, are likely to prevail along and off the Andaman and Nicobar coasts from August 3 to August 5.
In view of the expected sea conditions, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Andaman and Nicobar coasts during the period from August 3 to August 5.
A swell surge alert has also been issued for the coast of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Swell waves with a period ranging from 17.0 to 20.0 seconds and wave heights between 1.6 metres and 1.7 metres are forecast to continue until 11.30 p.m. on August 2.
The advisory states that the prevailing sea conditions could lead to wave surges along the coast. Boat operators have been advised to navigate with utmost vigilance, while people engaging in recreational activities along the coast have been urged to exercise due caution.
The forecast highlights the possibility of adverse weather conditions affecting both land and marine activities across the Islands over the next several days. Residents, fishermen and other sea users have been advised to remain alert and follow the weather advisories issued for the region.
