Car Nicobar: Responding to persistent demands from tribal poultry farmers, the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS) Department has revived the long-defunct Hatchery Unit at Car Nicobar. The unit, which had been suspended due to irregular power supply, was officially reactivated today after being temporarily relocated to a new building in Perka owned by the Agriculture Department.
The revival was marked by a modest inauguration ceremony attended by Perka’s Village Captain, Mathew, along with officials from AH&VS and the Agriculture Department. “This will not only boost the local poultry industry but also restore a crucial source of livelihood for many,” said the village head.
The move is expected to significantly benefit the local poultry sector, ensuring steady access to high-quality chicks and improving egg production. Plans are also in place to upgrade facilities and streamline the availability of essential farm inputs, further strengthening sustainable farming efforts.
Officials emphasized that this collaboration between the Agriculture and Animal Husbandry departments is a promising model of cross-sector support aimed at uplifting tribal communities.
