The Andaman and Nicobar Administration has announced that counselling for the five reserved General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) training seats for island students will be conducted on October 24 at 10 a.m. in the Secretariat, Sri Vijaya Puram. The session will be held under the supervision of the Deputy Secretary (Higher Education) for the academic year 2025–26.
According to an official notice, all candidates whose names appear on the merit list are required to attend the counselling in person with their original educational certificates, four passport-size photographs, two permanency certificates for sureties, and relevant documents supporting their category. The administration has clarified that attendance in person is mandatory and that no claims will be entertained from candidates who fail to appear or present original documents during the selection process.
The GNM course seats, which are reserved at mainland institutions for the students of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, are allotted based on merit and category. If any of the seats remain unutilized from specific categories, they will be re-allotted from Category V as per merit. In the event that seats still remain vacant, they will be opened for allotment to fresh eligible candidates who are present at the venue on the day of counselling.
The administration has urged all eligible candidates, including those not originally listed in the merit category but meeting the required eligibility criteria, to be present at the venue on time with all original documents. Fresh candidates will only be considered if seats remain vacant after the completion of allotments from the merit list.
Officials emphasized that the counselling process ensures transparency and equal opportunity for all eligible island students. The selection aims to support students pursuing nursing education at mainland institutions under the reserved quota for the Union Territory, enabling them to access professional medical training opportunities and contribute to the healthcare workforce in the islands.
Candidates have been reminded that this counselling session is their only opportunity for selection under the reserved quota for this academic year. Once the process concludes, no subsequent claim or request for reconsideration will be entertained. The Administration has also advised students to verify their eligibility and documentation before attending to avoid disqualification during the process.
The initiative continues the administration’s annual effort to ensure equitable representation of island students in mainland nursing institutions and to promote career opportunities in healthcare sectors vital to the region’s growth.
