A two-day chess tournament aimed at empowering girls under the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao scheme is set to begin on July 12 in Sri Vijaya Puram. The Smart Girls (Under-19) Chess Tournament 2025 is being organized by the Directorate of Education in association with the Andaman Nicobar Chess Association (ANCA) at the Government Girls Senior Secondary School auditorium.
The initiative is part of a broader national campaign that encourages girl participation in all spheres, including sports and intellectual activities. The event is designed to provide a strategic and confidence-building platform for young female minds while promoting chess as a competitive discipline that sharpens focus and decision-making skills.
Participants are expected to report by 8:30 AM on the opening day. Registration details have been uploaded on Chess-Results, and inquiries related to the event are being addressed via a designated contact number. With structured rounds and scheduled play over two days, the tournament is expected to draw interest from both participants and spectators.
By integrating sports into gender-focused welfare schemes, the tournament seeks to reinforce the importance of intellectual engagement alongside academic achievement. The event is also expected to encourage more institutions and communities to support girls’ participation in traditionally male-dominated sports like chess.
This edition of the tournament reflects a growing emphasis on building inclusive platforms in A&N Islands that promote holistic development and strategic thinking among youth.
