Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 8: A temporary shortage of laboratory reagents has disrupted some diagnostic tests at G.B. Pant Hospital in recent days, prompting the Health Department to sanction ₹9 crore for the procurement of laboratory consumables and issue supply orders for the required reagents.
The Director of Health Services has accorded Administrative Approval and Expenditure Sanction (AA & ES) for procuring consumables, including reagents, required for laboratory testing at the hospital. The department has said the procurement process has now moved forward after completion of all requisite codal formalities.
The shortage affected the availability of some laboratory tests during the last few days. The department has since addressed the issue and issued supply orders for the reagents required to resume the affected services.
The required supplies are expected to reach the hospital shortly. Once the reagents become available, the affected laboratory tests will be restored and conducted as part of the hospital’s normal routine.
The development comes as a temporary interruption in laboratory services has affected the conduct of certain diagnostic tests at the hospital. The department has indicated that the disruption is linked specifically to the shortfall of certain reagents and that procurement action has been initiated to resolve the supply gap.
The Health Department is also monitoring the situation and said it is taking necessary measures to maintain the availability of essential diagnostic services at G.B. Pant Hospital.
Authorities have asked the general public not to be alarmed over the temporary disruption, while the department continues to oversee the supply of the required laboratory consumables.
With supply orders already issued, the immediate focus remains on making the required reagents available and restoring the affected tests. The department expects the laboratory services concerned to return to their normal routine once the supplies arrive.
