Sri Vijaya Puram, May 01: A May Day rally organised by the Forest Labour Union was held today, with workers marching from Chatham Saw Mill to Van Sadhan in Sri Vijaya Puram, marking a public demonstration focused on labour unity, rights and collective strength.
The procession witnessed participation from a large number of workers belonging to the Chatham Mill Division, led by Works Committee members, who joined the march to express solidarity with labour-related causes. The rally highlighted demands and concerns linked to workers’ rights and reinforced unity among the labour community.
The event was conducted under the leadership and guidance of ANTCC President Rangalal Halder and National Vice President of INTUC Federation as well as President of the Forest Labour Union T.S.G. Bhasker. Their leadership framed the mobilisation as a collective assertion of labour identity and rights.

Several political and organisational representatives attended the rally and extended support to the workers. Among those present were District Congress President John Robert Babu, Mahila Congress President Zubaida Begum, INTUC General Secretary Mohd. Rafique, Block Congress President P.B. Murugan, Congress leader Fathima Imtiaz, Youth Congress General Secretary Vikram, and Congress leaders Fareeda Bibi, Eswar Rao, Gyanasekaran, along with Forest Labour Union Vice-President Balakrishna and General Secretary P. Kannan.
The participation of multiple leaders from affiliated organisations reflected coordinated support for labour issues and underscored the political and organisational backing for the union’s May Day observance.
Workers and leaders jointly used the occasion to reaffirm solidarity within the labour force, with the rally serving as a public expression of unity and shared concerns over employment conditions and rights. The march concluded at Van Sadhan, marking the end of the procession.
May Day, observed globally as a day dedicated to workers’ rights, was marked in Sri Vijaya Puram with this mobilisation, bringing together labour representatives and political figures on a shared platform.
The Forest Labour Union stated that such collective actions remain central to maintaining awareness of labour issues and strengthening organisational unity among workers across sectors.
